Flue Dilution »

A flue dilution system is normally installed where difficulties are encountered in the provision of a conventional flue, or indeed where savings can be made if the only other alternative is a high rise chimney. The system is only for use with VLS (very low sulphur) fuel appliances.

Principles of Flue Dilution

Each system is designed on the principle of diluting the vented products of combustion sufficiently to reduce the CO² content to the required level of below one percent (BS 6644:2005+A1:2008) and less than 100ppm for carbon monoxide.

The Clean Air Act dictates that this type of system can be fitted to gas-fired appliances rated at up to 6mW. The principle being that fresh air and products of combustion from the boilers are drawn into a duct by a fan and consequently diluted, thus maintaining the low CO² and carbon monoxide discharge levels as shown in the diagram below.

Flue dilution is based on the principal of diluting the products of combustion to reduce the CO² content of the discharge to below 1%.

Midtherm offers the option of it's own Fluevent flue dilution system or an individual design and installation service for any gas-fired or other VLS fuel installation tailored to on-site conditions and particular customer requirements.

Tailored Flue Dilution System

Our technical design team analyses each system on its merits to find the best solution and all systems are then designed and installed in compliance with the Clean Air Act Regulations as well as Environmental Health Noise Control requirements. With over 27 years’ experience of this type of installation, the company can ensure compliance with the Clean Air Act, D1 and BS 6644/IGE/UP/10 part 1 edition 2. We can also offer advice on noise reduction methods as necessary.

Fluevent System

The Midtherm Fluevent System is a packaged alternative to a conventional flue dilution system. Available as either a Single or Double unit (dependent on your design requirement), the system offers several advantages including lower noise level, a reduction in the amount and size of the duct/flue in the boiler house, reduced energy costs and easy installation, maintenance and inspection. The unit offers an aesthetic solution both internally and externally. All that can be seen on the outside wall is the inlet/discharge all-weather louvre.

Single Fluevent Dilution

The Midtherm Fluevent Single Unit is of rigid construction and is manufactured from stainless steel, with framework or brackets as required, and is pre-assembled and tested before delivery, ensuring efficient installation. Single Units are available for use on boilers ranging from 100kW up to 300kW output.

Double Fluevent Dilution

The Double Unit is of rigid construction and manufactured from stainless steel material with framework or brackets as required and is pre-assembled and tested before delivery, ensuring efficient installation and trouble-free commissioning. Units are available for use on boilers ranging from 100kW up to 1000kW output.

Condensing Boilers

Stainless steel, fully-welded construction is an option allowing a watertight system designed, supplied and installed for the use on condensing appliances (the standard unit is only suitable for conventional non-condensing boilers). The unit can be wall-mounted horizontally or vertically, dependent on the application and space available. It is possible for us to vary certain dimensions to suit non-standard applications.
