Windvent SV » Introduction

Solar-Vent terminalThe Windvent SV (fromerly Solar-Vent) is an active stack terminal that combines the winning design of the Midtherm passive stack Windvent system with an integral, solar-powered fan to boost internal air velocities during hot summer temperatures, thereby improving the thermal conditions for room occupants.

Research has shown that an active stack system is preferable if climatic conditions are unfavourable or in buildings prone to high summer temperatures (due to having to keep doors, windows or skylights closed for health, safety or security reasons), therefore creating undesirable internal thermal conditions for the building occupants.

The substantial increase in internal air velocities provided by the Windvent SV succeeds in boosting the potential of existing Windvent technology while utilising renewable energy sources and ensuring a comfortable working environment for occupants.

Cost Savings

The system is powered primarily by aerodynamic forces and natural solar energy and so the only external power required is to run the low voltage controller unit. This offers substantial costs savings compared to traditional mechanical ventilation systems that can potentially run into thousands of pounds each year.

Environmentally-Friendly

The Windvent SV unit has virtually ZERO carbon footprint and therefore has no impact on the environment, perfect for energy-efficient schools and buildings with a conscientious environmental policy.

Health Benefits

The Windvent SV boasts all the same health benefits as our Windvent system. It combats common health problems associated with mechanical air conditioning units by removing stale air and replacing it with a fresh supply (rather than re-circulating stale air and possibly germs).

Suitable Applications

The Windvent SV system is suitable for many applications including schools, offices and hospitals. It is used in private, local authority and commercial premises including gymnasiums, colleges, universities, reception areas, store rooms, changing rooms, libraries, meeting halls and is suitable for specialist applications.

Intelligent Control System

The Windvent SV is controlled by a low voltage, control panel that monitors and adjusts intake and extraction ventilation rates accordingly and offers the option of a fan boost. The units are capable of being linked to the buildings BMS to ensure dampers are fully closed in the event of a fire. The control system can be also be linked to room temperature and CO² sensors.

Terminal Design

External terminals are available in either square or circular shape and can be designed in keeping with the architectural design and aesthetics of the buildings or can be manufactured to be of a contrasting appearance, adding a feature aspect to the building. Louvres are designed to ensure the maximum available free area of the unit is utilised, whilst maintaining weather integrity at all times.

Maintenance

Maintenance of the Windvent SV terminal should be carried out annually via access to the terminal lid. The lid is lockable using the heavy duty, key operated, bolt action lock. Access to the gel acid battery and charge controller is possible via an access panel within the lid itself. The unit is designed and manufactured so that all components are accessible with as little impact on fan decibel levels at room level as possible.

The Ideal Solution

The Windvent SV offers architects and consulting engineers not only a natural and environmentally-friendly solution but an acoustically efficient, economical and aesthetic answer to ventilation needs.
