Windvent VL » Design & Manufacture »
Windvent VL terminals can be designed and manufactured to be in keeping with the architectural aesthetics of the buildings to which they are installed or alternatively, they can be designed and manufactured to give a contrasting appearance, adding a feature aspect to the overall structure of the building.
Every system is designed to suit individual requirements and the following criteria are utilised by our design team to deliver an effective solution:
- Air change rates
- Room dimensions
- Room usage
- Location
- Average wind speed in area
- Average room occupancy
- Which direction are the windows placed (eg. south)
- Heat gains within the environment for which the unit is to be placed

Air Change Rates
The air change rate is a calculation based on the required input of fresh air, the corresponding extraction rate and building size and usage. Air change rates are determined and calculated according to CIBSE standards and guidelines. The size and quantity of required terminals is based on this air change rate calculation. The size of the natural ventilation part of the unit and number of louvres is dependent upon the air changes required and the building dimensions. For larger rooms a series of units may be required.Room Dimensions and Usage
Similarly to the above, the size of the room and how is it to be used also dictates the number of lighting units, strength of illumination & type of diffuser required.Wind Conditions
To allow for differing wind conditions and building requirements, adjustable dampers are provided with the system. These dampers are linked to a programmable control system, which allows the ventilation rate to be controlled by room censors. Control units can be set to leave the dampers fully open within summer months, when buildings are empty in the evening time. By doing this, stale air can be fully removed leaving a clean atmosphere and a 'fresh' start in the morning. In the winter months the controller is able to set the flow rate to reduce the effect of colder air diluting the warm atmosphere, whilst still performing its overall functionality.Design
A computer generated likeness of the installed system can be produced for approval prior to manufacture.Manufacture
Our Windvent VL units are constructed in-house by experienced craftsmen and women. They are made from fully welded, corrosion-resistant aluminium and fitted with BSRIA tested internal acoustic and fire-resistant material. Adjustable modulating dampers and transfer grilles are manufactured from anodised aluminium or perforated stainless steel panels so they maintain weather integrity at all times. All units are manufactured to BS EN ISO 9001 and suit most architectural design requirements. Windvent louvres are designed to ensure that the maximum available free area of the unit is utilised. The units may also be powder coated to your specifications in any RAL colour of your choice.Installation
Windvent VL's are installed by our own highly experienced fitting teams, all trained to the highest health & safety standards. Installations onto flat, pitched roofs or even onto the roof apex itself are regularly achieved.
