X-Stream » Design & Specification »

To enable efficient airflow and cooling within a building, the following factors must be taken into account at the design stages to determine the overall ventilation design and amount of roof ventilators required:

  • Building orientation (ie. south facing or not)
  • Thermal properties of the building structure/fabric
  • Solar properties of windows
  • Maximum internal occupancy levels within the space
  • Lighting heat outputs
  • Any other electrical equipment heat outputs
  • Average monthly/yearly external airflow rates for the area to which units are to be installed

In compliance with building regulations, we produce a mathematical calculation analyzing the necessary building data to provide reassurance that a design is suitable and acceptable for the area under consideration.

In certain cases we can provide flow rate levels and roof terminal details to consultants or architects for airflow modelling using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). CFD software such as IES or Ansys are used to model the building structure with the natural ventilation devices included.

Manufacturing Specifications of X-Stream Roof Ventilators

The 600mm diameter X-Stream natural ventilation terminals are supplied with 5 airflow louvres constructed from 1.5mm - 2mm thick high quality fire retardant GRP with aluminium plastic coated bird mesh installed internally. The terminal capping is acoustically lined with 6.5mm THK sound insulating material to minimise rain drumming noise transfer from roof level.

The patented X-Stream airflow louvre blades are manufactured from fire resistant GRP and their configuration is specifically designed and manufactured to be highly resistant to almost all rain conditions whilst ensuring the most efficient possible airflow performances.

X-Stream terminals are manufactured to EN ISO 9001 quality standards and are designed to comply with current building regulations and associated codes of practice.

Installation

The standard system is provided with a 600mm diameter GRP fire retardant flat roof flashing plate as standard. An aluminium curb-mounted flashing plate or a pitched-roof flashing plate can be purchased at additional cost.

Specifications for Internal Components

Standard X-Stream internal kit components consist of the following items:
  • Roof plate pipe extension (for the transition between the roof flashing and internal ducting)
  • 1000mm length of fire retardant PVC insulated flexible ducting (supplied with fixing straps)
  • Galvanised round to square transition section at ceiling interface
  • Fully sealed and fully modulating aluminium airflow damper arrangement
  • Fully modulating spring return 24v AC actuator
  • Egg crate grille to suit either a false ceiling grid or plasterboard ceiling types

Each X-Stream system is supplied as a boxed unit with fixing kit and full installation guidelines. Internal PVC duct extensions can be purchase separately in either 0.5m or 1m ducting lengths. Standard boxed systems are suitable for flat roof applications with a total installed distance of 600mm from the underside of the roof structure to the internal ceiling level.
