The X-Stream SOLAR unit is a boxed GRP natural ventilator with active stack capability. The unit consists of a passive stack terminal with a solar-powered, integral fan to boost airflow velocity as necessary. The X-Stream SOLAR utilises the same technology as our Windvent passive ventilation terminal design alongside our cutting edge X-Stream technology and renewable solar energy sources.
The VLP (very low powered) fan at the inlet to the stack offers the option to improve air velocity at times when climatic conditions are insufficient, naturally powered by the solar panels attached to the X-Stream terminal roof.
The X-Stream SOLAR system is designed for all room conditions with a total fan input volume of 170L/s of mechanical fan air flow. These systems can provide up to a total input and extract volume of 300L/s per unit.
The standard unit is designed to allow the fan to run for 4 hours per day continuously. As an optional feature the X-Stream SOLAR can be provided with a mains battery charging facility to ensure 24hr continuous fan operation if required. With the addition of a world zone timer the unit can be programmed to only take electricity during the night at the cheapest possible electricity prices.Power Supply
The terminal energy supply is obviously limited by the environmental location of the solar panel and available battery charge. However the X-Stream SOLAR fan unit is only designed to be used for a limited time period such as when outside wind conditions are low or when the room temperature increases beyond tolerable levels. The fan can be activated for set periods of time determined by the X-Stream control panel or internal space conditions. The units are designed for the DC powered fans to run for up to four hour’s continuous use during the hottest part of each summer day between May to September.Mains Charging Capability
As an additional feature, the X-Stream SOLAR system can be provided with a 240v – 12v DC mains power charging unit coupled with a solar time switch for timing of battery charging from mains power. The time switch activates the power supply to trickle charge the battery during the night when there is no daylight and electricity costs are normally greatly reduced per Kw/hour of consumption. This offers a cost saving to our clients as well as being environmentally friendly.System Components

Standard Design
A 40w solar panel is positioned on the roof of the X-Stream terminal, angled at an optimum pitch. The Photovoltaic (PV) panel/cells collect energy and convert this to electricity via an internally mounted DC charge controller which in turn charges the sealed Gel acid batteries. Simply put this is free power from daylight which in turn drives the low powered 12v fan unit to provide a cool, fresh air supply. The battery is capable of storing enough energy to continuously drive the 12v fan for 5 hrs per day (minimum usage, not constant use) with a maximum battery capacity for 15hrs continuous usage from fully charged to discharged.Operation
The entire system is controlled via our Midtherm MID2012 master panel which is normally located within the space to be ventilated. The MID2012 panel gives the room occupants complete control of the X-Stream SOLAR unit and even offers a natural ventilation purge capability as well as free night cooling.Electrical Specification

Environmental Impacts
