X-Stream Interest at Ecobuild 2010 (Earl's Court) »

Eco Build 2010Midtherm attended the recent Ecobuild 2010 exhibition from March 2nd to 4th in conjunction with natural lighting specialists Solatube UK.

Midtherm have recently patented and trademarked the new X-Stream louvre blade technology. This is a new innovation in louvre blade design achieved in close collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University following a 3 year joint funded study into the efficiency of the aerodynamics of a standard louvre blade design. The result was conclusive following BSRIA benchmark testing that with a precise blade pitch angle that achieves the highest airflow performance at the lowest resistance possible. The ‘X-Stream’ louvre blade brand name has now been trademarked and there has been considerable interest in the joint Solabreeze X-Stream product from many industry sectors during the Ecobuild event.

The Solabreeze airflow terminal is essentially a passive stack ventilation unit and is constructed to be used in conjunction with other devices such as openable windows, internal wall air transfer grilles and external actuated wall mounted ventilators such as the Midtherm ‘Crossvent’ unit.

The Solabreeze air terminal can be used either on its own as a passive stack ventilator, or as a stack with solatube units utilising Solatube tubular skylights or as a passive unit with a solastar boost fan for harnessing the power of natural daylight to run a power free integral ABS plastic fan unit. The solastar fan unit is a durable and eco-friendly fan option that compliments the passive solabreeze unit and further enhances stale hot air removal.

Guideline airflow performance figures are; Solabreeze stand-alone system 45L/s, Solabreeze c/w 250 Solatube 37L/s and Solabreeze c/w 350 Solatube 32L/s. The Solabreeze boost fan unit would be 32L/s plus the stated extract rate from the Solatube Solastar BSRIA test results, in the region of 80L/s. The passive stack figures stated are at less than 1m/s internal building air speed.
