Operation and Maintenance of Midtherm Solatube »
The Midtherm Solatube system is designed and carefully manufactured to be as maintenance free as possible. However if access is required for cleaning or internal equipment maintenance then Midtherm Engineering always recommends you to have the correct access and safety procedures in place before any work is carried out.
- When cleaning of the system externals such as ceiling diffuser and roof dome is required then it is recommended that non-abrasive cleaning fluid, and non-abrasive cleaning cloths are used.
-
- Use only safe access methods when attempting to reach the polycarbonate roof dome. Approved roof ladders or scaffold access is always preferable.
-
- When attempting to clean the polycarbonate roof dome first lightly brush away any leaves or debris attatched or around the general area. Then using the appropriate cloth and cleaning fluid wash the external surface of the dome.
-
- Unless it is strictly necessary or a Midtherm engineer is present then it is not our recommendation to remove the roof dome for internal cleaning operations. Once the roof dome is removed airborne particles or the cleaning chemicals used may compromise the integrity of the system.
-
- When checking the system integrity enter the roof space and look for beams of light escaping the system. If any are found these must be taped using a suitable aluminium tape. Escaping light can attract many insect types and these can enter the system and collect within the ceiling diffuser.
-
- If access is required to the bottom of the system then this can be attained through removing the ceiling mounted light diffuser. This is attached via plastic ties operating on a ratchet system. Prise the diffuser away from the ceiling carefully ensuring no damage is caused to either the diffuser assembly or ceiling area.
-
- In the case of an integral lighting kit being installed and access is required to facilitate light bulb changes it is our recommendation that soft cotton gloves are used. This is because touching the silverised material can have an impact on the overall performance of the lighting system.
-
- When replacing the light diffuser ensure that the ratchet ties are correctly located within the guide holes provided. Not correctly aligning the ties to the holes can damage the system.
