Windvent Ventilation at Doncaster Academy

How it Works »

The Midtherm Windvent is a natural ventilation system that operates purely on aerodynamic principles. Allowing the provision of an air supply, and a corresponding extraction rate, without the need for a power supply to drive the unit. The only power required is a low voltage controller unit that operates the dampers that limit the input of natural air.

Design »

Terminals can be designed in keeping with the architectural design and aesthetics of the buildings to which they are installed. Alternatively they can be designed and
Windvent Design Styles manufactured to be of a contrasting appearance, adding a feature aspect to the overall structure of the building. The Windvent louvres are designed to ensure the maximum available free area of the unit is utilised, whilst maintaining weather integrity at all times.

Manufacture & Installation »

Our Windvent units can be installed on flat or pitched roofs and also on the roof apex where appropriate. All units are manufactured to BS EN ISO 9001 and suit most architectural design requirements. All units are fully welded and constructed using corrosion resistant aluminium and fitted with internal acoustic material. Adjustable dampers and transfer grilles are manufactured from anodised aluminium or perforated stainless steel panels. The units may also be powder coated to your specifications in any RAL colour of your choice.

Windvent Installation at St Paul's, ManchesterThe Windvent works on a tried and tested combination of principles. These include cross ventilation, buoyancy (rising warm air) and the venturi effect (suction created by wind passing over a high level opening). The ductwork for the units themselves can pass through any floor level to take warm air from within the building. The units are also capable of being linked to the buildings BMS to ensure dampers are fully closed in the event of a fire. Windvent units can be controlled via master control panels and room temperature sensors, and Co2 sensors. We can also offer a manually operated system called ‘Teleflex’ where the dampers can be opened and closed by use of a rotating lever operated by the room occupants when required.

Application »

The Midtherm Engineering Windvent (and it's sister Litepipe - see below) systems are extremely suitable in many applications within offices, hospitals, and schools as well as private and commercial premises including gymnasiums, main building entrances and specialist applications. With many companies and individuals taking a more positive approach to environmental issues, an increasing number are seeing the benefits of naturally driven systems in their working environment and to the health of their employees.

LitepipeNatural light systems such as Midtherm Litepipe can assist in alleviating the commonly known office sickness syndrome. Windvent systems offer a natural solution to health problems commonly associated with mechanical air conditioning units that re-circulate stale air and possibly germs contained within the building. By comparison, the Windvent system takes air from the roof level eliminating a healthy proportion of pollution, including hazardous carbon monoxide from roadside traffic that is often a problem when using low level ventilation methods.

Midtherm News...
X-Stream Interest at Ecobuild 2010

We recently attended the Ecobuild event at Earl’s Court to promote our Solabreeze X-Stream airflow terminal. There was great interest in the Solabreeze X-Stream product from many industry sectors during the Ecobuild event.
Burj Tower, Dubai

The X-Stream louvre blade technology is a new innovation in louvre blade design achieved in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University following a 3 year joint funded study into the aerodynamic efficiency of a standard louvre blade design.

The Solabreeze airflow terminal is essentially a passive stack ventilation unit and is constructed to be used in conjunction with other devices such as openable windows, internal wall air transfer grilles and external actuated wall mounted ventilators such as the Midtherm ‘Crossvent’ unit.

BSRIA benchmark testing confirmed that the new, precise blade pitch angle of the X-Stream achieves the highest airflow performance at the lowest resistance possible.
